Dr. Peter Otokunor appointed Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor has been appointed as the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the Presidency.
Dr. Otokunor shared the news of his appointment on his Facebook page on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
He expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity given him to serve under his government while promising to commit all his expertise, skills and energy to serve in this new role.
“I want to express my deepest heartfelt gratitude to H.E John Dramani Mahama for this rare opportunity to serve in his government as the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the Presidency.
“I promise to commit every bit of my knowledge, skills, experience and energy to this new role to deliver on his vision. And thanks to all the Comrades, party folks and well wishers for the best wishes. Akpe kaka! ‘Ny3yi Waladon’!! Medaase!!” he wrote on Facebook.
In his new role, Dr. Otokunor will spearhead all initiatives relating to agriculture and agribusiness at the Office of the President.
Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor is an Agricultural Economist and a Chartered Financial Economist, a Politician, a Policy Analyst, and a Lecturer.
He holds a PhD degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ghana, a Chartered Financial Economist and a Fellow Chartered Economist of the Association of Certified and Chartered Economists (ACCE) and a Member of the Association of the Association of Certified and Chartered Economists (ACCE).
He also holds an honorary Doctorate in Executive Leadership from New England University – USA, as well as a Diploma in Youth Development from the International Training College of the International Labour Organization, Turin – Italy, a Master of Arts degree in Economic Policy Management and Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture (Animal Science) all from University of Ghana – Legon.
He has over 20 years of working experience in the public and private sector. He is currently a Lecturer at the Department of Economics and Actuarial Science of the University of Professional Studies, Accra.
He recently served as a Deputy General Secretary (Operations) of the National Democratic Congress – NDC and the Secretary General of the African Leftist Party Schools Union (ALPSU). He is currently the Director of Interparty and Civil Society Relations for the National Democratic Congress and a member of the NDC Elections Directorate.
In public service, he distinguished himself as the Head of Research at the Communications Directorate at the Office of the President under HE Late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills and subsequently served as a Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA) of Ghana.
He was a Deputy Campaign Manager, for the 2020 NDC-John Mahama Campaign and led the Operations Sub-Committee of the 2012 NDC- John Mahama Campaign.
He was the Secretary to the NDC 2016 Manifesto Committee and a member of the 2020 and 2024 Manifesto Committees of the NDC. He had previously served as the Deputy Director of Research of the NDC and the founding Registrar of the NDC Party School (Ghana Institute of Social Democracy – GISD).
